Deicing the airline industry

In the winter of 1997–98, New York’s LaGuardia and Chicago’s O’Hare airports were first to demonstrate a system created at NCAR for helping airlines decide when to take the costly but sometimes critical step of deicing their planes. The Weather Support to Deicing Decision Making, required minimal training to operate, and no special meteorological knowledge to interpret. The display provided a maximum amount of weather information at a glance.
